Since 1998, Moray House has been a part of Edinburgh University Library, providing local services to the Faculty of Education. Previous to that it was a substantial mansion built between 1618-1625 for Mary, Dowager Countess of Home. Oliver Cromwell stayed here in 1648, when he received much support in Scotland for the execution of Charles I which happened in the following year. In 1707 the Treaty of Union was signed here.
