The River Cafe London Reviews

Great Food - but expensive as hell. - This is without shadow of a doubt one of the best London meals I have ever had and having lived in London in 9 years and eaten at most of the top places dont want to sound boastful but this is an excellent place to eat.

Cannot remember what we had but it was good hearty Italian food and was amazing from start to finish. Very much like a Jamie Oliver cookbook- things like pork belly with beans, nothing nouvelle about it and just good wholesome Italian food.

My only gripe is we went mid summer on a very hot summer's day and there was no air conditioning, no air period, and a wood burning stove firing away pizzas. People were all sitting outside in the sunshine and inside it was very warm, but the amazing food made up for it.

We drank alot at the time as it was a friend's birthday, much more than I would do now, and it was £125 per head for 4 of us. Yes the bill was 500 quid, we were mega shocked. This place will break the bank, but it will not fail to disappoint, it is lovely.

Fab but not alot of man food!! - I visited The River Cafe on the 11th of November. It was a fresh autum day. So we sat nside looking out over the Thames. It was busy and most of the tables were taken when we arrived at 12.30.

We passed on starters as nothing took eith of our eyes so we had a couple of glass's of pinot and some water. The were very accomodating to my 15 month old son and provided a high chair and a table with plenty of space. I had the turbot with wilted spinach and my companion had red snapper. My turbot was amazing. Fresh tasty filling. The snapper was one of the best my companion had tried to. We then had desert. I had choc pie and she has roasted pear which looked and tasted fab my choc pud was out of this world. We had to leave the table by 2.15. Which although we were not rushed I did notice the table was turned around before we had got our coats. The total cost of the meal was £120 which was not bad however the onloy down side of the place was I
didnt feel there was much atmosphere.

Nice Italian, great outdoor - River Cafe is a Michelin star Italian situated on the river (hence the name, ha!). The food is seasonal and simple, but delicious. The staff is excellent and the sommelier is very helpful and knowlegable.

Definitely book ahead. Prices are as to be expected with any Michelin star restaurant. Great place to go on a nice sunny day if you can get a seat outside.

Perfect Simple Italian - Lovely setting and great for architect spotting if you like that kind of thing... Richard Rogers was sat next to us having his daily lunch, much to the delight of my husband.
I don't know what it's like in the evening, however lunchtime does have an air of "working lunch" about it - behind us the table was full of American TV executives droning on about extremely dull network statistics. However, one large glass of champagne later and they had become muted background noise.
I actually really liked the River Cafe despite the fact that some of the food is a bit overpriced. The setting by the river is beautiful, though it's a bit of a trek from the tube to get there. In the summer you can sit outside on the patio which surely must be one of the loveliest suntraps in London.
The River Cafe serves very simple Italian food. It's all about the best ingredients, simply cooked without fuss. From the rich peppery olive oil with the bread, via the lightest pasta, to my juicy grilled sea bass, the meal was a delight. The wine list is of course heavily Italian, but the sommelier was very good in helping us find the right bottle for our budget and food.
We finished off the meal with Chocolate nemesis cake and vanilla ice cream doused in espresso.
A perfect lazy lunch.
