Oxo Tower Brasserie London Reviews

Not a drop of Gravy in sight! - Ok, it was our anniversary yesterday so my fiancee had booked us a table at the brasserie, I was excited because it was my first time here and it was also a lovely day so the view was amazing.
Service : Excellent! The waiter we had for most of the evening was attentive and efficient(looking at the other comments here, i'm guessing he's new!).
Food : starters were excellent, mains were fabulous. Very expensive but I wouldn't expect anything less.
Drinks : we shared a £36 bottle of sancerre, fab.
The waiter had noticed that it was our anniversary and we also got a decorated plate with a dollop of ice cream - nice touch guys, keep up the good work, we were already really impressed when the duty manager came over and took our picture, came back with it framed in a little fridge magnet..I was bowled over, this place was on top form and we added to the 12.5% automatic service charge.
It started to get busy just as we were leaving but we left with our bellies full, our wallets empty(ish) and very happy. heartily recommend this one.

I Say, Sir! - I took a friend here for his birthday.

Everything here is very impersonal, large and over-done. You take a lift to the top (8th floor) and enter the main area, which is very spacious, open-planned and decorated extravagantly. Coats are taken and you can immediately see outside the windows and take in the views of London. Now, of course, the views cannot be replaced. They are sensational. Wait staff are virtually non-existent throughout your meal and take ages to do things. They don't really speak to you or try to make an effort. Sign of the times and the class of the restaurant? Maybe.

Once seated, you are greeted with the barman. He's a sneaky fella, so watch out for him. I guess it's not his fault, as barmen are meant to sell you expensive things, but we definitely paid the price for being polite Brits, here. So, he came over and started listing off wines and champagnes we could possibly order. The barman trick is (wait for it...) to list the most expensive drinks available by the glass first and last. Because those are the only ones you remember. Now, I let my friend choose the drink and given that my friend and I are fairly easy-going types, we just chose the easiest thing there was to remember. The glasses of pink champagne came and we thought nothing of it - toasting to my friend's birthday.

Soon after, the barman came along and handed us what looked like the 'War And Peace' of drinks menus. This thing was massive! We really don't know much about wines, so we just looked for a simple Rosé to drink by the bottle. Not a chance! You get stuck in a loop of despair here and it sort of digs into the enjoyment of the evening. Looking for what you want isn't easy as there's so much to trudge through and if you don't look through the Bible of drinks, you'll end up asking the bartender, who will suggest one of the most expensive things on the menu! And, we already did that! After looking for our bottle, we actually stumbled across the champagne we'd ordered. We'd very stupidly ordered champagne that was 22 pounds a glass. TWENTY-TWO POUNDS A GLASS? There are no words for how we felt, and luckily both ended up laughing our arses off at how much we lost that one.

Okay, so time to order food. I ordered my usual; a steak, and my friend ordered veal. Both meals were cooked perfectly and were vey succulent. The portions were a tad on the small side. We'd ordered French beans on the side too, and we were still a little hungry after finishing. And, most unfortunately, now too poor to order dessert.

The waitress, however, was very attentive and made me look fabulous. To which I responded with a five pound tip straight into her hand, afterwards. She'd heard there was a birthday on the table and so, after we'd finished our mains had brought out a plate of ice-cream for my friend, which was decorated with chocolate sauce that spelt 'Happy Birthday'. Score!

After ordering the check and parting with nearly a hundred and thirty pounds, we left. We were in good spirits, but unfortunately, the experience left us a little scarred, as well as, walking away with some very fun and funny memories.

Won't go back, but if someone else is paying, do recommend you go here ;)

Pushy service, great view - Arranged a birthday party with 7 people for lunch. Waiter was obnoxiously pushy when it came to the alcohol and dessert; and non-existent when we needed him. Food was appropriately trendy but nothing special. Amazing view.

Good Date Spot - The top of the Oxo Tower is split up into 3 sections - there's the bar, the not so posh food bit and then the restaurant proper.

I've never eaten here but I've been coming to the bar for a few years now - its got that kind of 80's Manhatten vibe about it - its on the 8th floor which helps but the wooden topped bar with leather arm rests and mulitcolor cocktails create an atmosphere that might be perfectly complemented by the appearance of Kenny G. Actually maybe thats a little unfair - but they do have live music in the form of flamenco guitar or sometimes a piano playing crooner.

The wine / champagne / cocktail list is extensive but if you're just after a beer you're looking at over priced Nastro Azzuro.

To me the best thing about this place is the look-out balcony - its not covered so its a bit useless in the rain but the view over St Pauls and the rest of London is awesome.

Very City - I went here on a client lunch, but you really got the feeling noone was paying for their own meal. The view is spectacular over the Thames, but nothing else was. I can't fault anything in particular, it was all just fine. The service was impersonal, the food sufficiently trendy, and the atmosphere non-existent.

A safe bet for a stiff client, but not somewhere i will rush back to.
