Cheap Eats, Ornery Staff - Wrights Bar is a staple of the Houghton Street scene. The place does what it does well, and at a great value, but don't look for more than should be expected of it. Wrights is where you go for a cheap breakfast or lunch, and there is great value to be had from them. Still, due to the volume of people that crunch into this little space on mornings and afternoons, here are a few words to the wise:
-Join the queue outside knowing what you want (there's not all that much to order from).
-When you finally get the chance to step inside, sidle up to the bar and be ready to call out your order on demand.
-Once you've placed your order, move down the bar to the extent possible so that people can come in from outside.
-Be prepared to defend yourself against the hordes of people who stream past the bar to collect their tea and coffee from the next counter (this is perfectly acceptable - if you are just looking for the 50p cup of coffee in the morning you needn't stand in the food line).
-Don't feel bad if you are paying your two pound charge with a 20 pound bill, they've loads of change for you.
-Enjoy your cheap meal!
Needless to say, the pitfalls associated with Wrights Bar include getting your expectations up too high and encountering the massive queue when you need a quick bite. Also: getting your head bitten off by the sometimes ornery, if quite efficient, folks behind the counter.
