Scott's was originally opened as an oyster warehouse in 1851 by the young fishmonger John Scott, and it rapidly evolved into the famous seafood restaurant and oyster bar. The restaurant has been housed on two sites: initially in Haymarket until 1968, when the restaurant relocated to its current site in Mayfair.

Acquired by Caprice Holdings in 2005, the restaurant has returned to its former glory as a seafood restaurant and oyster bar.

Worth the splurge - I took a client to Scott’s for lunch the other day b/c we’ve both heard such wonderful things about it and neither of us had ever been. It lives up to its reputation of being a top seafood restaurant. Situated in the heart of Mayfair, you expect top quality and that’s what Scott’s delivers. You walk in and they take your coat and greet you before seating you at your table in the light and airy restaurant with tables scattered around the edges of the huge square seafood bar (that’s where I plan to sit next time).

The menu is extensive and about 90% fish and seafood, as you’d expect. Everything you think of is on there. I always have a hard time choosing with so many wonderful choices but I eventually chose the dressed crab (£14) for a starter and the roasted Halibut with kale and chervil (£26). Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked and just melted in my mouth. My client has the oysters as a starter and she gobbled all of them up and the lobster for a main, again, easily devoured.

The service was decent. They were busy at lunchtime and you could tell the waiter had his plate full but we certainly didn’t feel neglected; he could have been slightly more attentive though.

All in all a top notch experience. I really want to go back with someone special and sit at the seafood bar and eat oyster and drink champagne until we’re silly.

Great Scott's - I went here for my birthday which fell on a Sunday, so it was about half-full which was really nice and quiet. I can imagine it gets quite buzzy when full - or maybe that's just because towards the end of our meal a table of loud Americans came and sat next to us.

It is a fish lovers paradise as you will see the minute you walk in - in true oyster bar style the centre of the restaurant is taken up with what could only be described as a 'fishmongers centrepiece'.

My boyfriend's smoked haddock was apparently amazing and all the other food was well prepared. Like all restaurants in the Caprice group, there is a separate menu for veggies/vegans. I was a little pikey and had colcannon and a poached egg for my starter, but it was actually better than caff fayre, which is the ultimate compliment!

It's a really gorgeous restaurant with some really nice
contemporary art dotted around the shop. The waiting staff are not snobby at all and don't look down at you if you ask questions, which means you can relax and enjoy.

I definitely need to make more money so I can afford to be a regular here!

Seafood delight - A friend took me for lunch at Scott's yesterday - definitely a hit.

Great menu - perhaps a bit on the slim side if you're not a fish/seafood eater. But then again, Scott's is renowned for all things fish.

Good wine list, including an interesting British wine (good for one glass, not sure I could cope with much more though).

Not the cheapest, probably on a par with J. Sheekey/Ivy for price; and at lunchtime a distinct corporate set - although a few famous faces dotted about.

Would definitely go again, but perhaps in the evening next time.
