BIKES - SHAME WAS GOING GET BIKE FROM VELORUTION BIKE SHOP THIS WEEKEND BUT NOW I READ THESE COMMENTS DON'T THINK I BE BOTHERING NOW I DO LIKE GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE WHEN I SPEND MY HARD EARNED CASH ON NEW BIKES GOT SOME NICE BIKES IN THERE TO :( PLENTY MORE BIKE SHOPS IN W1 AND FEW NEW ONES OPENING IN GTS. THAT LOOK LIKE THEY STOCK VERY GOOD CLASS OF BIKES I HAVE POP IN AND TRY ONE OUT :)

great bikes, questionable service - No question that the beautiful shiny unusual bikes for sale here are great. But aspects of the service I received post-purchase detracts from their lustre. And like others commenting here I really wanted to like velorution.
A few minor problems with my bike were dealt with begrudgingly - and at one point with what felt like open hostility. An enquiry about why integrated lights were not working after having apparently been replaced shall apparently remain a mystery as I have yet to hear from them 2 months after having the nerve to ask.
Since had great service from an outlet of one of the chains that now carries the same model. I don't suppose Velorution will miss me as a customer, I certainly won't miss being one.

Disappointing -
I really want to like this shop. Great stock well displayed, a good website, an opinionated (sometimes too much so) blog. BUT customer service is extremely variable. With a couple of exceptions shop staff seem to be incompetent with no knowledge of the stock and communication between the shopfloor and the workshop is poor. Simply buying a tool roll took half an hour as the girl in the shop tried to find the stock and then process the till transaction. Customer service and attitude with customers can also be poor - a common problem it seems with many London bike shops. I have witnessed staff being very rude and offhand with customers. To be fair a couple of the staff are both knowledgable and customer focused - just be careful who you deal with.
I ordered a bike that was on the shop floor but requested that a chain guard be fitted. I paid a deposit and arranged to collect the bike later in the week. I trekked across town to pick the bike up and it was still on the shopfloor with no chain guard. I was told that the workshop didn't want to do anything without talking to me first which is fair enough if anyone had tried to talk to me. When I asked for a refund of my deposit they initially refused.

Sauce45 - Disgraceful!
I found the owner to be extremely rude and aggressive. I am shocked that they are trying to engage local businesses for their own cycle scheme... I would be amazed if any company engages with them due to the unstable and erratic nature of the owner.
I would like to add that these are my personal opinions based on my experience.. I have however heard many similar comments regarding the owner from others, which is a shame as I found the staff to be friendly.

Shambolic - You'd think that a bike shop would be able to procure a pretty basic part in less than 7 weeks. If the bike shop in question had broken the part in the first place, you'd imagine they'd do their damndest to get the replacement in. You'd be wrong.
Nice bikes for sale there, but I think I'll take my custom elsewhere in future.

One solution: Velorution - AMAZING cycle shop selling bikes that can't be found anywhere else. Like an art gallery for pedal-heads. From Dutch and Danish classics and cargo monsters to the lastest Rolhoff-hubbed easy-riders, cool single-speeds and candy-coloured fold ups. Good stock of proper parts and accessories. Smart, sassy and helpful people working there, who actually know what they're talking about. Servicing good, reasonable and reliable, whatever your steed: I took my old BMX in there and they didn't bat an eyelid.
