Why isn't this my living room? - So this is a fairtrade, organic, local, GM-free cafe, attached to the largest fairtrade shop I've ever seen, with a sizable and tantalizing book section at the back. The cafe has an enormous tea and beer menu, plus lots of juice and coffee options. (Apple rhubarb juice was pretty good). Even better, it's cozy: big windows, worn couches, warm light, rotating art on the walls (photographs and oils this time), very comfortable noise level.
Best of all, though: the Ethiopian lunch special. For £4.95, one gets one piece of injera (traditional Ethiopian bread, like a sour pancake, made from teff), plus two toppings (choose out of 8 available). All vegetarian options are actually vegan. While not the very best Ethiopian I've ever had, it was perfectly tasty, and it's hard to go wrong with Ethiopian food. They also had a more conventional baguettes, soups, and Mediterranean lunch options, all rather economically priced. They're also open for dinner, apparently.
So in short, the Global Cafe is good for the producers, good for the planet, good for your tastebuds, and good for your karma: I'll definitely be back!
