Carling only, ugh! - As the same as the guy underneath, i too went to see Steve Coogan at the Apollo.
The queues were rediculous and there wasn't enough staff, the staff helping people find their seats were great, but that was all.
there's no queuing system and all the foreigners and Southerners just push and shove their way everywhere.
It was a great venue for the night given, and id go there again, but not for overpriced drinks that you may not even get served for.
Ps, also same as guy below... Steve Coogan was great! Very funny and i dont know what the critics problems are, they have no sense of humour at all.

Getting to the bar is a nightmare - The venue is situated conveniently within 5 minutes of the tube station – which is great as we were running late.
The queues were poorly managed, it just seemed to be push and shove and you will get in (but most of London is like that – why don’t southerners know how to make a line?).
It’s a nice place inside – but it nothing spectacular, I should imagine that it’s a good view wherever you sit which is a bonus. I like the smaller venues, and this is pretty nice. I could hear everything clearly and the view was good – so no complaints really.
The interval meant more pushing and shoving to get to the bar – they should sort some sort of system out because hundreds of people wanting drinks in under 20 minutes with something like 4 bar staff…erm not going to work. I was lucky enough to get served (but then had to push my way back through the crowd with 3 pints getting knocked about everywhere) but I know a lot more people did not get served. The prices were overpriced, but nothing more than you would expect.
I have been to better – I have definitely been to worse – so all in all a good place for getting what you expect.
As a side line – I went to see was Steve Coogan here. The reviews were terrible but I think these critics were WRONG! Such a good night – I was in stitches and still laugh at bits now.
“Don’t say Whiskers” (if you didn’t see the show – you won’t get that!)

Wincing the Shins Away - As I am writing a review about a music gig I firstly would like to state that the review is dependant on the act of the night and therefore your experience could obviously be completely different under other circumstances.
So I went to see the Shins play here and being a big shins fan I was very excited. There was an eclectic mix of people consisting of a variety of mop haired indie kids to hopeless yet loveable nerds. One will notice that the venue is called the Carling Apollo. The name does not lie as the only beer served here is unfortunately Carling. Even that did not dampen my spirits though...
After an enjoyable opening act the shins came on. There was little chit chat as they played professionally through their set, including new slang, phantom limb and australia. The fantastic new album is called Wincing The Night Away alluding to singer James Mercer's insomnia and on the night he gave the impression of an annoyed man being greeted in the morning after a sleepless night by 2000 clapping people. Yet he still managed to perform effortlessly without dropping a note.
I struggled to 'feel' the music though, the acoustics were quite poor and I felt lost in the swaying crowd grasping to connect with the sound. I desperately consumed more Carling but unlike beers of higher quality I could not attain that excited level where music makes your skin prickle with delight.
Don't get me wrong the shins were not bad at all. Perhaps the venue was not ideal for the intimate melodic sounds of a once underground indie band. It will be a tragic day when this band plays its first stadium gig. Afterwards I realised I had witnessed one of those rare occassions where smaller is in fact better.
