AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. APPALLING - A couple of months ago, I was walking past Kenvigs on Friargate and noticed the sign saying "20% of all treatments Mon to Thurs".
I usually get my eyebrows waxed at my usual salon, but as they needed doing, I thought I would take advantage of the offer and pop in on the off chance they had a free slot.
The girl who served me confirmed the 20% was on as it was a weekday and after waxing my eyebrows, she charged me £5 instead of the advertised £6 (It should actually have been £4.80, but I wasn't bothered about the 20p)
A couple of months later, I was again walking past on a week day and as the "20% off all treatments" sign was still in the window, I went in and asked if I could have my eyebrows waxed.
Again, they were free to do me straight away as there were no customers (This alone should have set alarm bells ringing).
The "beautician" hurriedly waxed my eyebrows and it seemed to take her no time at all.
When she had finished and showed me the results in the mirror, I pointed out that one of my eyebrows looked wonky, but she dismissed my concerns and said they looked all right to her.
When I went to pay and said I was using the 20% off, they refused to honour it and used every excuse under the sun to get out of it. First, they tried to tell me it was only an offer for students, LIE as the sign clearly stated "20% off all treatments Mon t Thurs" with no mention of students.
Then, they said the 20% off didn't apply to smaller treatments, but I explained that I had been given it only a few months earlier.
The two unfriendly members of staff basically accused me of lying by saying they had never done eye brow waxes that cheap. Even though one of them was actually the girl who had waxed my eyebrows and taken my payment on my first visit.
They then begrudgingly said they would give me a 10% discount instead of the 20% and asked me for £6.30, even though their booklet clearly stated eyebrow wax as £6.
When I enquired how £6 minus 10% could equal £6.30, they muttered they thought eye brow waxes were £7 and then told me I would have to pay the full £6.
When I told them they had got me in under false pretences with their advert in the window, they said they would take it down.
Not wanting to make a major issue, I paid the £6 vowing never to return.
I know it is only a small amount of money, but it is the principle of the matter.
Companies should not advertise offers if they are not willing to honour them.
I cannot believe they were willing to lose a customer over pennies.
Also, I had originally after my first visit told friends and family about the 20% offer, but I have now warned them to steer clear.
So the petty mindedness and false advertising of Kenvigs has cost them many potential customers.
On getting home, I realised that my eyebrows were indeed mismatched with one being thinner that the other.
So a botch job as well as a rip off.
Oh - I walked past today - and they are still advertising the "20% off ALL beauty treatments" that they refuse to honour.
A case for Trading Standards I feel.
BEWARE of this place and avoid. There is a reason why they are always quiet and able to take customers at a moment's notice.
Appalling customer service. Hang your heads in shame.
