How long to prepare a table? - Tried Gaucho in Hampstead on a recent Tuesday night after a movie at The Everyman. We didn't have a booking but there were plenty of empty tables. We were asked to wait 15 min for them to set up a table, and were offered a drink at the bar.
We didn't want to drink before our meal so we ordered a carafe of wine which we planned to have with our meal, but we ended up waiting 30 min for the table. Cynically I think its a ploy to get people consuming cocktails before their meal, or perhaps they just needed to meter the tables for the kitchen. If it was the latter I would have at least appreciated this information.
However once we were seated the service was thence forth very prompt and polite. My rib steak was perfectly medium rare and delicious. My husband went for a large cut of sirloin and was disappointed when the outside was cooked well done to get the inside of the steak medium rare. The vegetables on the side were perfect. Delicious beetroot, lovely green salad and my husband enjoyed his spinach. Overall happy with the meal and service at the table. Just wish they were a little more honest about seating us!

Phone ahead for best tables - What more can I say about Gaucho? As with it's sister restaurants you wil not be let down by great steak and wine.
The only thing that I would add is that this Hampstead branch is very busy so book ahead. I've got in a couple of times without booking on my way to the Everyman Cinema (which is by the way the best way to watch films in London!), but ended up in the back room which is a bit of an indoor / outdoor Marquee which can be cold at the edges in the deep winter!
Ideally you want to be in the main room near the open grill. An added bonus that it is a really atmospheric room - all this and great steak!!
When it is really busy they will also set up for you on the cocktail tables in the entrance corridor opposite the bar - if you plead enough and they take sympathy that you'll miss the start of your film!
