The Gymnasium has an incredible history. The Gymnasium was actually the home of the German Gymnasium Society, a sporting association established in London in 1861, and it was arguably the first purpose-built gymnasium in Britain. The venue echoes the very heart of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link understanding the glory of the past, whilst designing the rail of the future. All of this makes the gallery at the Gymnasium one of the most unusual and high profile events spaces in London and the UK.

VIVIAN MAIER: A LIFE UNCOVERED - The London Street Photography Festival is proud to host the first UK exhibition of the most talked about photography phenomenon in recent months: Vivian Maier.

Between 1st -24th July, forty-eight framed prints will be exhibited, both black and white and colour, alongside a selection of her fascinating silent films.

Through her unique style of candid street photography, Maier incidentally recorded some of the most interesting marvels and peculiarities of urban America in the second half of the twentieth century.

Vivian Maier’s massive body of work came to light in 2007 when her work was discovered at a local thrift auction house on Chicago’s Northwest Side. From there, it would eventually impact the world over and change the life of the man who championed her work and brought it to the public eye, John Maloof.
