Hidden, warm and cosy - Decided to try a local pub, hidden away on the Maida Vale side of Abbey Road. There are not too many reviews of The Clifton but several people who live in the area have mentioned it so we gave it a try.

The pub is hidden on a quiet street with houses on every side. No other shops in the vicinty must mean it gets very little non-local footfall. We went on a cold wet wintry day but there is a nice garden in the front which would be great in summer, and despite the cold a few people were enjoying their drinks under the heaters.

We went for Sunday lunch which was decent but not the best gastro food ever. The mezze plate we shared had 'average' chorizo, cheeses and tzaziki. For mains I went for fishcake which turned out to be massive - too large to finish. Taste was fine, though a little oily. Hubby had the rib eye which was also ok. Food overall was fine, it filled us up but I wouldn't go back for the food alone. However the drinking areas of the pub were really cosy, small rooms with open fireplaces. The landlord and (we assume) his missus were very friendly, and service was good. So for a cosy, friendly drinking experience The Clifton makes a good stop if you're in the area. 25-11-08

memorable - I used to work at The Clifton Hotel, a mere 17 years,so I may well be bias. I found the atmosphere to be capturing with history, warmth (esp in winter), and a sense of community. 23-01-08
