Famous for 15 mins - I went to Loungelover after having dinner at Les Trois Garcons it’s over-hyped French sister restaurant (eating there guarantees your entry to the exclusive bar) so I was already moderately drunk and delighted to be greeted by an efficient manager and attractive staff who after asking us to wait for a few minutes to double-check we’d booked some seats. Then we were ushered to a waitress-served booth, velvet lined and uber-funky where we were supplied with sell-an-organ-expensive cocktails by beautiful people. Bliss.
Then 40 minutes later the same lovely efficient manager and attractive staff came to eject us from the groovy booth because our time was up and some regulars (more fashionable than my party) wanted to sit there. After I stopped laughing and realised they were serious, we shuffled dejectedly out of the lovely booth where we were told we could stand in the bar area which was packed with miserable people who’d been ejected from their booths as well. The barmen were busy making drinks for the beautiful people in booths and were too busy to make drinks for the losers standing by the bar, who (like me) kept getting bumped into by the attractive bar staff who got quite irritable that you were begging “please serve me I’m dying of thirst” at the barmen whose seem to be blind and deaf…unless you’re one of the attractive bar staff.
We lasted about an hour (one round of drinks which took about 30 mins to actually order) before leaving in search of a more accessible pub. As you wander out, woozy from the strong booze, you become suddenly aware that this Bethnal Green back alley is popular with crack heads and prostitutes and is a bit of a dead zone for taxis and minicabs, so you’ve got a ten minute walk down to Shoreditch High St. to catch some transport home which is damn near impossible at closing time because it’s a very busy street full of bars and there’s a lot of competition for taxis.
Incidentally, those (less exclusive) bars let you sit down as long for as you like and serve you drinks at a rate of more than 1 per hour.

Opulent Cocktail Lounge - This place is great fun if you can stomach the steep prices and somewhat snooty staff. The owners are antiques dealers, and this place is stuffed to the brim with all items weird and wonderful. The cocktails are super tasty, but at around £12 a pop you don't want to drink too many. Staff are of the East London "I'm too cool for you" variety, but ignore this and you'll be fine. Remember to book a table as this place gets very busy. Definitely a place to visit at least once, but curb your drinking or you could wake up the next morning, the new owner of an art deco chair set and a giant stuffed flamingo.
