Quirky, wonderful plays - I almost hesitate to write a great review of this place because it’s such a gem and I don’t want it to get any more popular than it already is. But I have to say, this is one of my favourite places to see plays in London. The performances are always quirky (I’ve only seen British performances) and hilarious and the actors are top notch (Kevin Spacey and Gael Garcia Bernal) have both performed here). IN fact, some of them have done some pretty main stream performances.
The theatre must be one of the oldest in London too, built in 1837, and the quirkiness you see on stage resembles the rickety surroundings of the 325-seat theatre. There isn’t a bad seat in the house really and if you sit in the more obscure areas, like the back row in the corner, you can oftentimes get tickets for £6.
There’s the Almeida Restaurant across the street (no relation to the theatre though), serving more formal French cuisine and a nice bar, as well as a bistro/cafe in the actual theatre, serving lighter bites, wine and coffees.
