Great food; great service - Not cheap but great value. One of the most enjoyable lunches I've had in London.

great view, shame about the service - The view from the 20-somethingth floor of the Park Lane Hilton where this restaurant is situated is amazing. Hope for clear skies and if booking for two, request a windowside table. There’s something really lovely about looking out over London, which is probably why the London Eye is so popular.

The food is well-prepared as you would expect for a price of £65 per head. Expect foie gras etc. But vegetarians beware, the vegetarian options aren’t very imaginative.

What let this place down for me was the service. The waiters here seem to only have one mode: too attentive. I understand that some people like being interrupted every five seconds, but great waiting staff can tell those people from the people who would like to be left alone. The sommelier tried to push us to drink a different wine with every course when we were quite happy with our bottle. This pushy, overbearing and interruptive waiting style ruined what would have otherwise been a really lovely dining experience.

Great views and drinks (at a price) - Well-to-do business friend in town who wants to take you out for a drink on the company’s tab? Hesitate no more. Located on the 28th floor of the London Hilton on Park Lane, Galvin at Windows is a bar with truly innovative cocktails, great service, “free” tapas with your drinks, and the best view in London. You definitely get what you pay for. That being said, it is not outrageously priced for a celebration drink, and while it is definitely smart, it is not too stiffly posh to bear. I also heard that the Queen is not a fan of the unique views of her palace offered by this venue. So give her a little courtesy wave if you go.

(Note: this is a tip for the bar, not the restaurant under the same name on the same floor!)
