Founded 46 years ago in Paris by wine grower M Gineste de Saurs, whose daughter Mme. Godillot now owns and runs the restaurant, Le Relais de Venise L Entrecote centres around one very simple menu a starter of a green salad with walnuts, followed by trimmed sirloin steak and chips with a secret sauce and to finish, a selection of desserts. No messing about! - When you really need steak and chips, this is the place to go. They don't serve anything else - literally.
It's surprising how few places in London just do a simple French-style 'steak frites' - the steak has to be and the chips have to be thin - and I was recommended this by a friend (always a good start).
There is quite often a queue outside but don't worry, it moves quickly as once inside they feed and water/wine you, and give you the bill. Not in a rushed way, just no nonsense. It's like this: sit down, order wine and how you like your steak. Get served green salad with house dressing. Eat, finish, plate is taken away. Get served steak and chips with house sauce (optional, tasty, seems to be mostly butter and tarragon). Eat, finish. Get served second helping. Eat, feel very satisfied, plate taken away. Get given the dessert menu (profiteroles, tarte au citron, etc), eat dessert. Coffee. Bill. Out.
Sometimes, it's good not to have options. Probably not good for veggies.
