Spaccarubbisholi - We went here for a work Christmas lunch and each paid £25 per head for 2 courses and a couple of drinks.
The food was absolutely appalling and my main of "chicken with aubergine and smoked cheese" was a joke. What turned up on my plate was a sliced, breaded chicken escalope with a tomato and aubergine disaster and cheese melted on top. Even with copious salt and pepper, it was beyond saving... I'd have rather had a Findus Crispy Pancake - it would have been classier.
My colleague sitting next to me ordered a prawn cocktail. What arrives was a sizeable bowl of thousand island dressing with some prawns drowning in it (you couldn't see them) and saturated lettuce, all fully smothered at the bottom.
The pizzas that had been ordered were uninspiring and were roundly deemed to be 'pretty rubbish'.
At the end of the meal, we were overcharged, leading the member of our party who had booked the meal (everyone had finished their food by the time her pre-ordered pizza arrived) removing the service charge. Upon doing this, all hell broke loose and she was surrounded by staff and intimidatingly asked "how are we supposed to pay our waiters?", as what seemed to be the *manager* attempted to guilt her into digging deeper to the tune of several hundred pounds.
Ultimately, Spaccanapoli made good money out of our large booking, but didn't deliver anything that approached a quality food or service experience.
I'd never go back here. Pizza Express is a far better bet in the local area.

Italian Central - So good I almost don't want to tell you about it.
Recommended to me by an Italian friend, staffed by mostly Italians and frequented by mostly Italians, it's a little slice of Italy (but not in the hokey, mama's-cookin' way) in Soho central.
Clean, bright interiors, tables tightly packed together, and crowded even on weekday evenings. Never go without a reservation. Unless you want to join the constant small group of Italian people hanging outside the front door on a smoke break. Italians seem to smoke a lot, every time I've been there Italians were sitting around me, and they pop out for several smoke breaks throughout the meal.
Back to the food. Hearty tasty food with excellent quality ingredients in generous portions. Reasonable prices, good wine. Even the avocados in the side salad of the starter is good.
Only quibble are the desserts. But I'm not a fan of Italian desserts anyway. Too much fruit, too much sponge cake. I'm a chocolate cake and pudding person.
But go.

Buono Italiano - The queues of Italians waiting to get a seat at this pizza place just off Oxford street are a good sign of the quality of food inside. We shared a metre long pizza with 4 different sets of toppings which was a perfect amount for 6 people. Aubergine was delicious and the salami was spicy. Its not the best pizza I've ever had but pretty good for somewhere so central.
