Delicious Hungarian - Finom Magyar - All in all, lovely!

I had issues booking the table, when i rang perhaps i was a little blunt with the man, i was told no vacancies. This was an issue as we were entertaining my parents, so Vera called up and got a table, just like that... Good things happen to good people.

This is a real grand outing, after the stroll through Soho we entered and it's a statement interior. It's full of political caricatures of the great n good, which add to the gentlemens club atmosphere, bolstered by the overheard table talk of senior civil servants talking about a prominent politician's drinking issues... The attentiveness of the staff was impeccable from the off though we were a dash disappointed that our waiters weren't Huns.

Alcohol wise, we did the lot, honey palinka for digestion, tokaji for our deserts, red from gere for mains and tibor gaal red with our starters. All good and fairly priced considering their quality. Food was the real Magyar deal. Delicious foie gras, gulyas, duck in plum sauce, fat pork chops etc. Very filling stuff and best for winter time.

We ended up spending £220 for 4, for 3 courses wine, coffee, shots, the location, the history, the old school service and the food i thought this to be good value.

It isn't relaxed eating more refined dining, but it was an occasion for just that.
