Busy for a reason - This stalwart of the London casual Japanese scene is as popular as ever, often sending long queues out onto Wardour Street. The place is always packed, and there's a reason: very low prices and very tasty food in large portions.

Mains start from 4.90, which gets you a large portion of incredibly tasty teriyaki chicken with a huge mound of Japanese rice and salad. Other inexpensive and classic Japanese diner dishes such as katsu curry and chicken kara-age are also popular. There is also a selection of bento boxes, soups and sushi/sashimi to choose from.

Service is polite but a rushed and unfussy. The waitstaff work very hard to keep the queue moving, and for these prices you can't expect more than an excellent casual meal and an interesting atmosphere of predominantly young Japanese students, expats and visitors with a few adventurous London-savvy locals. 21-02-08
