Don't mess with perfection! - This pub used to be the best 'proper' pub in the area, until they gave it a pointless refurbishment, took out all the genuine ancient pubby decor and replaced it with a pastiche of ancient pubby decor. It still has big tables outside that catch the sun in Summer very nicely, and is on a pretty, quiet street really close to the tube. It's still a good place if you don't want anything trendy, it's got good local atmosphere and friendly staff, and at least they didn't turn it into a bar. 26-01-09

Watch out for crowds - I will say up front that I probably came at the wrong time to give this pub a real fair trial, but nevertheless.
I watched the semi-finals of the rugby world cup here. Well, more accurately I watched it from outside, standing on the street and looking through the windows. Not because I'm too cheap to go inside and pay for a drink, but because the place was so jammed that I couldn't find a place to squeeze in. I can't really blame the pub for being crowded, and to be honest I was able to be served reasonably quickly at the bar, all things considered, but still i was somewhat nonplussed by this place.
Maybe it's better on a quiet night? We'll see if I ever give it another try. 07-11-07
