It was here in James' Court that James Boswell entertained Samuel Johnson. James' Court also has literary recognition as the place where David Hume wrote his History of Britain and Political Discourses. James Court was originally known as Brownhill's Court, and was built in 1725-1727 by James Brownhill, after whom it was named.
