Tate Britain London Reviews

Forgotten hero - Since the enticing Tate Modern opened I haven't really been to the Tate Britain - despite being a Tate member. Im my head it's a little too far out of the way (actually only a 20 minute walk from my house) and the collections are just full of boring 18th and 19th century British portrait and still-life (sorry if that is your sort of thing).

Well, in the last month I've been three times to see the Bacon exhibition and I have a new found love for the good old Tate and will definitely be going there loads more in the future.

Like any other gallery in London make sure you get off your arse and go before the last weekend for the big shows. I went today (last day of Bacon) and it was rammed. I only wanted to get a last look at a couple of my favourite paintings so I wasn't too bothered and I had a little wander around.

The permanent collection has some blockbusters - Millais and Turner, but there's lots of interesting modern art. I saw a Caulfield I'd never seen (black and white flower piece) which I'm sort of in love with and may do for my "art forgery" (ask Charles O). I also came across some painters that I'd never heard of like Derek Boshier.

Top tip: If you like art books, definitely come here in the sales - I picked up 4 books for £13!! Including The way we Are catalogue and a book on Frida Kahlo.
