Indian in Harrow - Wealdstone
Old Redding,, Harrow Middlesex , Wealdstone, Harrow, HA36SE

The Case, in Old Redding, used to be a pub until just over a year ago when it became a pub/Indian restaurant. It doesn't appear to know what exactly it is, which isn't surprising as it is run by people who don't appear to know what they are doing or why they are there. It used to be a thriving pub, even though it is in an out of the way location, but when I went there recently there were only two customers other than myself and my two friends. I have spoken with friends to get a balanced view of the place so I don't sound biased in any way.

The Case (formerly The Case is Altered) Harrow Reviews

Basil Fawlty serves Indian food. - Some years ago this was a very busy pub with a huge garden, children's play area and regular barbecues and events. It was in an out of the way location, but very near a nightclub which drew in the crowds early in the evening. Now, the nightclub has gone and so have all the customers. About a year or so ago, I went there and it had just been taken over and was reopening as a pub / Indian restaurant. The new owners were very friendly, excited and full of great ideas. I chatted with them at length as I used to be a chef across the road at the Grim's Dyke Hotel. The future looked bright I thought. They only had bar food at that time and said the new menu was being created and would be up and running soon. I went there again recently (Nov 2011) and was left in total bemusement at the place. The building is old and full of character, but it is in a state of disrepair. Broken windows, jamming doors, crammed full of mismatched tables and chairs and mismatched figures and paintings. The giant tvs on the walls looked out of place and were inches away from the tables. Thankfully they weren't turned on until just before we left. Noticable was how dirty everything was. The tables had new napkins and clean cutlery alongside crumbs and sticky glass rings. The windows were filthy and there was dust on every ledge possible. The paint was flaky and the wallpaper had holes which were covered over. When I went in I saw two other customers near the bar, the rest of the pub was empty. I ordered a pint of cider (£3.90) and sat down to wait for my friends. The next pint of cider I bought cost me £3.00, I didn't complain! When my friends arrived I told them about the price difference and they said it was normal here and once my friend was charged 80p for a glass of lemonade and her friend was charged £2.00 on the same evening. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for this, but is commonly agreed upon by everyone I spoke to. The menu looked good. The food is a modern twist on Indian food with regional specialities, street food and a good vegetarian selection. I'm not a vegetarian myself, but the items looked so good I decided to stick to the vegetarian options. It was the first time I ever did that. My friends chose meat dishes. The food was very good over all, well presented, good portions, fresh herbs and spices etc. The breads were excellent, light and fluffy with a good smell and taste. The salad was quite basic. The jeera rice was great. Everything was fine until I saw a blue rubber band poking out of a deep fried battered dish. I called the waiter over and he said it was corriander, so I stretched it and let it ping back. He took it to the kitchen and returned to tell us it was from around the corriander. There was no hint of an apology or even any embarassment. Apart from that I can't complain at all about the food which we all enjoyed immensely. The staff however, were something else. They just seemed so distant and non-communicative. There was a sign for CAMRA real ale but they didn't stock any.It was the wrong time of year to judge, but there is a huge rear garden which used to get packed in the summer. I can't see why it couldn't be used for private parties, weddings, children's groups, barbecues etc now, but it was barren and empty when I was there. I don't think the place is well advertised and can only be seen by traffic going past to the Grim's Dyke Hotel or to the golf club nearby as it is off of the main road. The pub on the corner of the road, The Hare, is busy mainly because of it's location and must pull business away from the Case. I very much doubt whether I would go there again, mainly because of the weird pricing structure and the rubber band in the food, but also because 1/2 a mile away down the road there are a dozen Indian restaurants to choose from which are all along the main road, so no need to drive.
