St Peter's Church is situated just along from the old Castle, and was built shortly after the Castle itself. The founder of the Church was Robert Fitzhamon. To this day there are still some original roman parts in the lower stages of the tower. Following major reconstruction work in 1657 and major bombing in 1940 it is lucky to have survived. The herb gardens surrounding the church are kept in perfect order while keeping their attractive wild look.
