York & Albany London Reviews

comfy, homey food - Finally went to this place, my first Gordon Ramsay restaurant in fact. I actually went very much influenced by Amy B's review and was not sorry.
I took my foodie boyfriend, now a chef by training, as his end of year treat. He's not into the fancy pants dining (odd for a chef, i know) so I thought this would be nice - of the Michelin star chef, but the more casual standard. (though not that casual...)
Overall, we both enjoyed it very much. It's basically home style food, at a high-end atmosphere, experience.
The service was friendly, fast and professional. The dishes were much homier than I expected.
I had the Jerusalem Artichoke soup which was very flavourful and warm. Chef boyfriend had a beef plate, it was beef shin wrapped with bresaola and horse radish sauce and some other condiment which added sweetness. He enjoyed it well. As mains, I had a homemade past with wild mushrooms and spinach - seems simple, and probably is, but was very filling and full flavoured. He had a devon plaice with an apple puree and raison juice, which he also enjoyed a lot.
As mentioned, the overall dinner was really enjoyable, and though I'd been wanting to go there for a while, I was surely not disappointed and would recommend it indeed.

Beautiful restaurant, tasty food - About six months ago, Gordon Ramsay opened up another "pub" in London, probably taking over a beautiful listed building and coverting it into a treasure. The outside ground floor is made up of yellow tiles and all windows looking into a pub-like bar with huge wooden bar and a mixture of big and small tables. The chairs, as I recall, are high back with purple velour/felt. Very high-end.

We actually booked in the restaurant which is behind the bar and once you enter, you no longer feel you're in a pub anymore, but in a classy restaurant with people who have money. It's beautiful in the dining room, again lots of windows. Unfortunately, we were escorted downstairs which looked more like a lounge with red wallpaper and red couches and no windows. I think b/c we had baby and pram. Or we booked too late, who knows but it wasn't as nice downstairs so make sure specify if you book.

The food was wonderful. Expensive and small but very nice. I had the grilled squid with chorizo starter which was perfect. I then had the roasted sea bass with aubergine puree and Provencale vegetables. Again, very tasty. The 3 people I was with all opted for the cod tagine and I immediately had buyers remorse once I tasted their dish. Yum!

Bill was about £50 pp and that included a lovely bottle of Prosecco and a gorgeous bottle of Australian Chardonnay. No pudding. Quite steep in my mind but that's what I expect of a GR restaurant these days.
