The St Pancras Grand is quintessentially English but, set in Europe’s most beautiful train station, exudes the grandeur, mysticism and exoticism of the Orient Express and New York’s Grand Central Station.

British and iconic - I had the good fortune to be invited to the launch event so bear in mind that the food and champagne were free... I should also claim a vested interest because my company built their website. But this is an honest review from my perspective.

I was really impressed. The restaurant itself is elegant wth high celings and uniformly laid-out tables. It's set off the main Eurostar concourse, over-looking the champagne bar. The waiting staff, friendly and well turned out.

The food, was truly amazing. Although we were being served buffet-sized amounts, what we had was awesome. Some classic British favourites of bubble and squeak parcels, fish and chips, roast beef and yorkshire pudding along with smoked salmon and oysters. Sounds unimaginative? It was British food and it's tasty best and I've honestly never had anything like it before.

This place, I don't think, is the place where you would go for a quick bite on the way home after work. But, if you were planning a weekend in Paris then it would be a great place to start.

The idea of a restaurant in a train station being a destination in itself is quite odd in the UK, but it has worked in New York and if any place was going to pull it off, the St Pancras Grand is the one to do it.
