Big Fat Greek Amy - Why is it so hard to not overeat at Greek restaurants? Is it because all the dips like humous, tahini and tzatiki are so tasty and you fill up on that with the warm pita bread? Or is it because I always over-order b/c every little dish on the menu sounds delicious and I have to try them all? Probably both. And it’s easy to do that at Pomegranate, a new restaurant on Upper Street in the heart of Islington that serves food from Cyprus (no idea what the difference is besides more grilled meat – less greasy I guess than Greek).
Anyway, we did order the dips, but also beetroot and tahini, grilled haloumi which was very simple and I actually ended up dipping it in the tahini sauce, some kind of broad bean and mint salad, a huge greek salad with feta (but not enough feta) and then we had chicken slouvaki and lamb cutlets. And then baklava for dessert. Everything was really good. The starters were around £3 and the mains £6-9. I think our total bill came to around £50 which included 2 glasses of wine.
The best part, besides the food, is the service. Our waitress was amazing! She was attentive, friendly and even gave me a new dessert b/c the one she recommended I didn’t like. That’s unheard of in London! So the price, food, atmosphere (is was bustling on a Thursday night with both families, groups of Greek men, and dates) and service were all good enough to keep going back.
