What they said - I chanced this place yesterday on the strength of the previous reviews. I almost bottled it when I got to the door - the signage and window makes it look like a laundrette - but I'm glad I didn't. Okay, so you don't get a beer or your hair washed or 'on-trend' cuts; but for £9 a nice man called George will give you a very good gents' haircut, not dissimilar to that which you might pay £40 for elsewhere, and throw some interesting chat into the bargain. I would pay double that just to not have a 19-year-old wannabe 'stylist' asking me where I'm going on holiday this summer.

Short Barack And Sides - Amen Brother Charles! I decided to celebrate the result of the spending of 1.5 billion US Dollars on American electoral politics with a good old fashioned buzz cut. No queue, a nice chat and 43 years of haircutting knowledge all for less than ten English Pounds! The kind of credit-crunch buster we all need in these straightened times.

cheap back and sides - Living in London you can quite often find yourself getting carried away paying way over the odds for things. £4.50 for a punnet of blueberries? no sweat - £6 a beer, awesome. £50 a haircut? bargain.
Ugh - I have to say that when I moved to London I did fall into that trap and pay £45 for a haircut - I mean yeah they gave you a beer and the cute intern would wash your hair but seriously? You wanna pay some cute girl to wash your hair? Seems like thats only a few steps away from who knows what.
Anyway now I just got to John's - its not flash, there's no beer, there's no cute intern and you don't even get your hair washed - but for £9 he gives you a really quick and really good haircut.
I'm all for mens grooming but seriously, unless you're getting your tips frosted (which you shouldn't ever be doing) then there's no need to spend over the odds on a haircut £10 max (including John's tip).
