Rubber Stamp Making - If you like to make things and make friends, go to the Make Lounge - there is no way on god;s earth that they could ever be had for trade description!
Had a great night being with like minded people in a cool and contemporary studio.

Awesome - The Make Lounge is one of those rare places nowadays, a completely unique idea run by someone with passion who actually cares about the punters. Now I know lots of people care but it seems that the make lounge cares more for some reason - perhaps because I've never been in such a 'creative' place before?

There are shelves and shelves of sewing machines, piles of fabric, jam jars full of buttons over there and then bowls of needles somewhere else.

Its set over 2 floors of an old town house and you bascially sign for workshops that run throughout the year like how to sew knickers, or knit some mittens or make some bath products.

I've only ever been to the event that Tipped put on here but I know that my girlfriend and I will be coming here a bunch in 09.

pom pom action on a Friday night - I had so much fun at the Make Lounge pom pom event on Friday - as someone who loves craft to death but has got a bit rusty due to hectic life stuff, pom-pom making provided just the level of effortless creativity that I needed to restore a bit of much-needed confidence. I felt totally 'in the zone', and I don't think that was entirely due to the copious champagne...;)

Anyway, it's impossible not to make amazing things in such an inspiring environment - the lounge is kind of like my dream home.

Something Different - It's been a long time since I've done anything crafty. You forget how much fun it is. The Make Lounge is a great little venue for learning how to, well, make stuff. A while back, I signed up for a "make your own christmas stocking" workshop, and then I just did the Pom Pom party with the guys behind Tipped.

This would be a great place for a girls' night out or a hen party. For me personally, I think about my mom's Singer sewing machine and how she used to use it all the time, and how I don't know jack about sewing. The Make Lounge actually offers intro and advanced sewing classes where you can learn how to make pillow covers, aprons, skirts, etc. Very useful!

A cracker for the crafty - As I turned off onto residential Barnsbury Street from Islington's Upper Street in search of the Make Lounge, I wondered if I was lost.

But after walking along for a minute or so, I soon came upon my destination: a shop tucked in amid the houses on the south side of the street.

I had been invited for a pompom-making party by the Tipped people, and as I entered the brightly lit room I was immediately offered a glass of rose wine by one of my hosts.

After chatting with a few people I walked down the several steps leading to the workroom. There were about 30 people seated at a long wooden table wrapping strands of wool around donut-shaped disks of black cardboard -- the simple process by which a pompom is made.

The table was strewn with pompoms, scissors, balls of wool -- solid and variegated colours -- and glasses of rose and champagne.

The attentive shop owner directed me to a seat and showed me how to make a pompom. She chatted for a while and then flitted off to help others.

The pompom was easy to make and after about half an hour of wrapping wool and chatting with others at the table, I had created a red and green pompom made from Debbie Bliss (Soho?) wool.

This was an evening event, but I am sure it would be a very pleasant experience to visit the Make Lounge in the daytime as well for craftmaking because of the big windows looking out onto the street.

Cupcakes, craft and champagne - This evening I had an abso-bloody-lutely lovely time at The Make Lounge. The Tipped Team and The Make Lounge put on a wonderful night of fun, friendly, arty, crafty, bubbly, boozy loveliness.
The Make Lounge is a wonderful creative space, with a welcoming, easy-going energy.
The pom-pom production was of a very high calibre and even this one managed to make not one, but three rather dashing pom poms.
I left with a smile on my face, inspired to dust down my sewing machine and get crafty for Christmas.
Three cheers and raise your glasses to Tipped and The Make Lounge.

Craft for the 21st Century - The Make Lounge is a fantastic place to help you learn new skills, and meet some cool people. I took the course on making an eco tote bag and had a great time. I was very impressed by the quality of the teaching, the materials and the environment. It might seem a little on the pricey side but I really think I got what I paid for (and it's only comparable to a night out with dinner anyway!). Would definetly go and do another course and will possibly have my hen do there.

Lots of fun, thoroughly recommended.
