Village East

Try the 'Borough Marketini' - "House Cocktail" is often a term used to describe a watered-down, pile 'em high and sell 'em low approach to drinks mixing. A 'sea breeze', made with cheap cranberry juice would be a good example, or a 'pitcher to share' comprised largely of ice, with a dash of spirits, some fruit juice and a bit more ice, that's briefly stirred together.
Village East doesn't go for that. Their list of house cocktails (all around £7 a pop) reads like a wish list, written by your taste buds. A Pineapple & Basil Mojito... a Gingerbread Old Fashioned, the Borough Marketini, which is a stunning, original blend of Beefeater gin, orange boudier liqueur, carrots, oranges, apples, ginger, coriander and fresh lemon juice.
The list of ingredients used in the house cocktails is impressive, with delights such as pear puree and rose petals making appearances.
I found the service in Village East to be friendly and polite. The bar itself is a little on the noisy side, even when it's not full, due to the music, but it seemed quieter in the restaurant area.
There's no outside seating, which is a shame, since that would have been a bonus on such a warm evening.
