Treasures from the Archives - One week ago, I was sitting in my room and thinking: you stupid girl, theoretically you live in London but what do you take from it? The city has so much to offer And you? You're so brainless...your cultural life is dying...Sad, don't you think? Anyway, I started to fight for my cultural life to be revived! My friend advised me to explore Southbank Centre...I'm always negative, I've been there so many times so I thought nothing could surprise me. But ok, let's go...
At the beginning I visited The Hayward Gallery and was a bit disappointed (anyway, there was Andy Warhol's something) and then I went to BFI. There was almost nobody there. To be honest with you, I felt a bit strange. It's like going to a shop when you're not sure what you want to buy.....So I was walking here and there, pretending to analyse different leaflets and finally I decided to go to Mediatheque. Had never been there before but it's a really nice place, I must admit!
I'm not a film freak – I always sleep in cinemas (unless it's a romantic date) but Mediatheque turned out to be a great solution to me. I chose amount of time I wanted to spend in the room, got a ticket with a special code and started my day with movies in front of a desktop (with headphones of course). I could chose hundreds of TV titles and films from BFI National Archive beginning from Black Britain through Anarchy in London, New British Cinema ending with Gay Cinema. I chose a nice title, 'Relax' about a guy who was waiting for his hiv results...and then a movie about The Sex Pistols. A really good choice!
I think that it's much better to book a viewing session in advance as the place may be overcrowded. I'll definitely go back there as there are so many titles I haven't seen so far.
