Reviews
V G Roman Catholic based resource - This shop is very comprehensive in selling a full range of Christian, mainly Roman Catholic books, media, education resources as well as church sacramental and devotional items. It is a considerable improvement on the much smaller shop in Kensington High Street, although, for its size, that shop is very good and actually lovingly served by the Sisters of one of the St Paul religious orders.
Being owned by the St Paul religious orders who work in the media in many places of the world it not only has many of their own publications, not always available elsewhere, as well as a great range of others. Unlike some Roman Catholic shops this one could be regarded as a small Roman Catholic supermarket for the range of items available, many of which would be helpful for Christians not in the RC fold.
If I have one complaint about them is that, in common with many secular supermarkets, my visits are rather disappointing, because with the wide range of stock of different kinds, they do not always make sure that they are well stocked in some particular books, like spiritual classics or a full range of RC liturgical books, even though they evidently try on those. They are ready to take orders for items not in stock though, both at the shop or online.
Sometimes also they do not seem to have enough staff available to assist when someone is receiving attention that takes a while, a problem if one should need to get to an appointment somewhere. I suppose this is, in some ways, a back-handed complement, because they do take the time to be helpful to customers, even when the customer really could do with longer term help in understanding Roman Catholic beliefs.
My other point is that sometimes the shop is more useful for browsing books to order online more cheaply, perhaps they could consider trying to match major online bookshops prices in order to make sales.
(I incidentally find the main online website a bit slow and difficult to navigate, which could be improved, perhaps with a low graphics version).
In all this shop is very helpful to have available, including for non-Christians looking for information on Christianity or for presents to give Roman Catholic or similar Christians. Centrally placed near Victoria Station and Coach Station it is very useful for travellers to slip into whilst in transit as long as they allow for getting served if there is a bit of a hold up at the counter.
