Support your local bookshop - Seriously I think this is the best bookshop I've been to in London, its not the cutest or most random but it wins for somehow cramming so many books into just 3 floors.
There are books everywhere in here, on tables, on shelves, on the floor, on the stairs and on top of more books. Upstairs is mainly ficiton and they've got everything in here, classic and contempory. My favorite thing was that a few of the shelves on the walls where on rollers so you roll the wall across and discover another shelf behind it and then that was on rollers and there was antother shelf behind it! I've seen double wall shelves before but never Triple!
To me the best thing about a bookshop is that they should find books for you, I don't mean that the book owner should go and find the book for you but somehow books find you. Whilst browsing you find random books that you fall in love with but have never heard of and would never have thought to look for - this is one of those places, I'm sure there's method in the madness and thats what seperates a good independant books shop from the chains - the books given the most prominent positioning in chains are the ones that have the biggest marketing budget in a place like John Sandoe the books that get the best placement are the most interesting ones that have been chosen by someone that actully loves books.
Support your local bookshop, you'll cry when they're all gone and then you'll be stuck with Borders or Waterstones and you'll be forced to read Jordan's biography over and over again.

London's City Lights - How do they fit so many books into this little store? And, even more of a mystery, how do they remember where they all are? The fact that they can fit 3 bookstores' worth of books into this compact but multi-level store and then immediately lay their hands on the exact book you're looking for never ceases to impress me.
Browsing is also fun here, but things are so layered (stacks of books surrounding other stacks of books, shelves that slide in front of each other 3-deep, etc.) that finding something specific by yourself can be a challenge; a fun and extremely nerdy challenge to be sure, but not always a successful one.
They also carry essentially the full line of titles from McSweeney's, including the 'journal' - something I never thought I would find in London, plus several obscure authors I thought that only I was a fan of. If you have ever been to the amazing City Lights Books in San Francisco, Sandoe provides a similar experience on a smaller scale.
