A run in the park - The only thing that can beat a park in London, is a pub in the park, but the Windmill isn't just a pub, it's something I'm proud to call my local.
Situated on the fringe of the Clapham Common, the Windmill is a quick walk south of the Common tube stop. Never the less, more and more I seem to find myself jumping off the tube and fast pacing south in anticipation of a pint of Winter Warmer Ale. There are a few spacious rooms, which help provide some relief on a Friday evening or a Sunday afternoon, when it does get understandably busy.
The main bar has a warm comforting flavour, probably due to the old school hotel decor, most notably the big leather couches where u can lose yourself while watching the sparks from the toasty log fire. You are practically in the park when on the heated outdoor patio, it's surely the ideal spot for a post-game pint come summer.
They have a good range of international beers on tap and a not just the standard line up of British ales that we see in so many 'pubs.' The kitchen has successfully revamped the traditional British pub menu, serving up adventurous yet good sized seasonal dishes. The wine list makes great fire-side reading - a good range of quality internationals, with smaller producers and no new/old world favoritism.
The Windmill has made the London Winter a little more enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing how it fairs when the sun comes back and the Common fills up.
