What an absolute shocker - Where do i start with this....
ive been getting take away and have "Dined" in several times over the last 3-4 years.
The times ive got take away (20 odd times) ive learned never to expect much of the food, its generally not very good, but its a convenience thing with take away, usually bought spare of the moment and crossing my fingers its not going to be as bad as the last time.
in mid 2008, i made the devastating mistake to order a fish curry from them, this resulted in what the hospital could only call as a "severe" allergic reaction (i am not allergic to anything and one doctor said it would be more likely the fish was not prepared or cooked properly). My whole body by 2pm the next day (i started to notice several hours after i ate the fish curry.) was covered in swelling rashes which hurt to the touch, to the point where i was running to the doctors and then straight to A&E as you could physically watch me swelling up and it cover my body. luckily they gave me some emergency treatment to stop the swelling, i said i would never eat at jolly's again.
it is my fault that i made the mistake to try again 6 months later, this time not touching the fish this time, and as usual, the food was dire as usual, over the last year and a half ive ordered about 4-5 times, and never once the food has been anything to rant about, its edible yes, and its convenient for me and saves time and cleaning up.
I decided to dine in the "resteraunt". The best thing, by far, about this resteraunt is the fact that is was refurbished not too long ago, the place is clean, and the people who work there are friendly and quick to attend to you, on arrival.
we were seated and had poppadums, and the chutny etc. we had two of them each, we were left alone after getting a drink with two poppadums for 25 minutes before i had to ask for service to order food, we then waited a further 20 minutes for the food to arrive.
I had lamb tikka masala, it should really be called "Four Rubber Squares with some sort of sauce" as the name describes, this lamb was like nothing you have ever seen before, im being very realistic when i say You could not put a fork into the lamb pieces because it was so rubbery, i did however manage to cut a little square in half, this took about a minute and a half, and i did try to eat it, and found myself spitting it out after a few minutes of chewing.
I also ordered lamb chops, these were not like rubber, they were however very very bland, im not sure where the tandoori went to, but it wasnt on the chops, maybe a day off?
the other chicken dish we ordered however was very tender and tasted not too bad, the sauce wasnt too bad either, but not as full of flavour as you would like, for an 8 quid small portion of chicken and sauce.
the chicken biryani was also not too bad.
to wash it all down, for £4 you can have yourself a "pint" of cobra beer, available directly across from the resteraunt for £1.80 in the off license.
i know, they need to make money aswell, but this is whitton/hounslow, who do they think they are charging £4 a pint?
I have failed to mention the NUMEROUS times the staff mumbled to the point me nor partner could understand a word they were saying and constantly had to ask them to repeat what they were saying, ive also failed to mention that after 5 minutes of placing the order for the main meal the manager came out to ask what we ordered because they were unsure what was written down on the pad, ive also to failed to mention that even though i repeated ATLEAST four times that we wanted a BUTTER nan bread.. a plain nan bread came out, Oh... and only one of them, not two!!
by this time it was already aparent this was the worst dining experience ive ever had in London and ive lived here for 7 years and have dined out, Hundreds and Hundreds of times in MANY MANY indian and other resteraunts.
Surely this could not get any worse, I was prepared to keep my mouth shut and leave, and just accept that the place has gone severely downhill in the last few years and never return.
We ordered a desert just to finish it off, i thought surely they cant make a mistake with that.
The dessert came out, ice cream and chocolate on top or something, I put my spoon into this and ate one (teaspoon) full of icecream and the choco, and started crunching into something, my partner could here me crunching and i stopped and thought it was like i was chewing on glass... surely not. on closer inspection i was actually chewing on part of the ceramic bowl the ice cream had came out of, that had broken off the inside of the bowl and was actually, extremely sharp.
this was enough, and i immediately got the manager over and told them about the worst dining experience i have ever, EVER had, in any country ive ever been to - this was the most terrible friday night at a resteraunt ive ever had.
When talking to the manager, he tried to palm the problem off to everyone else he could, telling me "the desserts arent made here a company brings them in" and that the lamb tikka "is meant to be chewy its cooked and recooked thats how it is"
a few minutes later he admitted that the lamb should not have resembled rubber squares and that there was a problem, I also notified him that i couldnt care less where the ice cream came from, he served it to me, why was he even telling me where it came from?
after ten minutes of complaining and making a very big fuss, they decided not to charge me for the lamb chops, the lamb tikka or the ice cream, i would say this is the least they could do, but am appreciative that they did take that off the bill, but i would have walked out and not paid for anything either way it was that bad.
the explanation for all the mess ups with the order and the fact we couldnt understand the waiters is that it was their first day on the job and they dont know what they are doing, and they have not had any training and it was the first order. again, i fail to see why our service should struggle because of their incompetence. That did not explain the extremely poor food quality.
I would recommend finding another place to dine, and stay well away from this joint.
