Authentic as it sounds! - Hmmm.. strolling along the pavements of a close-knitted area populated with small, local retailers dominating the edge of Brent Street, Chinese restaurants seems to be missing in the market. And not being entirely unceremonious, I'd have to say that Lido, yes.. ok.. a Chinese restaurant across the corner, sells food that tastes unbearingly unpalatable. In Jun Peking, it's a different story.
I was with my husband, and as we walked through the door, there was a chain of buzzing students with their warm chatter across several tables and a warm-looking, Chinese waitress, who seems to be bussling with experience welcomed us and hung our coats and umbrellas up on the pegs just opposite. The service was very pleasant indeed, but maybe if the understanding of the English language was a little bit clearer, I would have given it a 100 out of 100.
The food was indeed ambrosially delicious. Served a portion of the most appetizing prawn crackers opened my appetite in the beginning. The attraction came from the £13.50 per person of EAT AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE, where we shared a theatrical plate of Chinese starters beautifully presented with a hand-crafted carrot of a phoenix. Followed by this, were an enchanting crispy duck shredded immacuately infront of us and we definately had helped ourselves on this occasion of wrapping up the pancakes and the side vegetables..
With a sort of a full stomach already, I was tempted to shred my way through the main courses, where 4-5 dishes of chef recommendations could be chosen. Ohhh.. try the sizzling beef in black bean sauce. It is firing sparks all over! Simply delicious. The egg fried rice was cooked extremely thoroughly at the correct level and my sweet and sour chicken bursting with flavour of heaven.
The modernish theme of the oriental style is utilised by Jun Peking, and it works. The music is delightable.. I asked what it is and where it came from. The waitress said, Hong Kong's pop music. I found it interesting, watching it with appease on the TVs' screens above. Certainly a winner Jun Peking was... If you are looking for an escalent and affable Chinese dishes to give an instant fill of your tum, you should definately consider this one! I've heard that the lunch menus are less than £5 each but filled in a large portion too! Great for feeding the university students nearby!
