To market, to market - Previously, the Alma was a somewhat rough and intimidating local, but a transformation has taken place in the last six months and a far nicer pub has emerged as a result. And it's not the usual kind of transformation. The Alma doesn't feel soulless, or pretentious or that it's conforming to the 'gastropub by numbers' look, it just feels relaxed - like your favourite jumper that went a bit funny in the wash, but somehow feels better for it.
New owners have given the Alma a good clear out, breathed new life into the local art and music scene and created a real hub for the local community.
Hosting a weekly market on Saturdays, the beer garden is surprisingly spacious, with quirky murals and landscaping choices, such as banana palms!
The market features small stalls which change every week and range from local arts and crafts, to jewellers, food and clothing.
The pub still has a rough and ready charm, but it *is* a charm - it's no longer a scary place.
Check out the market if you're in the area - it's only little, but some of the stalls are fantastic and it's a good excuse for a nice sit down with a pint! :)
