The Groucho Club is located on Dean Street in Soho. Primarily a private members' club, they also offer various rooms for private events such as parties, weddings and conferences. The Club opened in 1985 as the antidote to the traditional club and has evolved over time. There are three bars, a brasserie and a more formal dining room. Open to men and women, its original membership was drawn from the publishing world, but it has over the years expanded to include all creative fields of the media and arts.

Quite accomodating... - When I found myself extremely intoxicated after my work Christmas party last week, I almost winced as I staggered into the Groucho club, convinced that I'd be turned away for said drunkeness (oh, and I'm not a member). Not so - I was welcomed warmly and my coat taken from me most graciously.

The bar area we were in is quite small, but the atmosphere was nice and the drinks well made.

However, they did lose my scarf or it was taken off the peg my coat was on, but offered me a different one (and perhaps nicer...) in exchange.

Famous media haunt - Very famous in the 80's / 90's Ab Fab generation of big spending media personalities and their henchmen. Steven Fry, Harry Enfield, Ian Hislop etc are all / used to be seen in its one time uber trendy bar.Used, by many, because it has a hotel to crash in after the white lines finally drive you to bed the groucho is still the uber members club in Soho, although these days is almost a cliche. Disapointing on the inside - if you are 'lucky' enough to be on the list your'l find it's no more luxurious than a B list wine bar, it thrives on its exclusivity, if you get excited by seeing telly folk quoffing champers this is the place for you. You'll have to be 'on the list' though.
