Classic chippy - Happened in here while out walking along the Greenway. I saw a man walking past blissfully tucking into a cone of chips and the vinegar smell did the rest to draw me round the corner to George's. It's an oasis of proper old-school fish suppers, saveloys and doner kebabs in a desert of fried chicken shops. Irn Bru was available, which is guaranteed to please thirsty Scots in the capital where it's hard to find, and Tizer etc too. Service was friendly and quick, and they asked me to wait for chips fresh out of the fryer. No problem! There was also a good range of pickled eggs, onions, mushy peas etc. One minor point off for selling mini packets of ketchup and brown sauce rather than giving it along with the chips, but then I didn't ask. The chips themselves were a generous portion of hot greasy potato joy for £1.20. I'll definitely be back next time I'm strolling down the Greenway. 02-04-09
