Not worth a second visit! - We had a table for four booked on a Saturday evening. Originally we had booked for 7:30 after being told that this was the only time we could have, however we phoned on the day & rearranged for 8:15pm. The place looked promising from the website. On arriving we were met by a pretty clueless waiter who didn't know where the other two of our party had been sat & had to go & find out from someone else. It looked busy from walking in as the bottom room was fully seated. We where taken to the 3rd floor up some grubby carpeted stairs where another 2 tables were occupied and we sat by the window overlooking the street. Another table arrived and was seated inbetween ours and another occupied table & they asked if they could sit somewhere a bit more private, but were denied & told that the table they wanted was booked by someone else. Drinks order was taken and these arrived fairly quickly. We ordered from the menu but the waiter returned shortly after to tell us that they had sold out of the 18oz thick cut full rib steak, of which myself & my husband wanted to share at the price of £29.50, so we ordered 2 of the 10oz rib eye steaks and asked if they could do it for the same price, the waiter came back & said no, they won't do it at that price as there was a £5 difference, fair enough I thought, no harm in asking, but a little customer service here would have gone a long way!
The starters eventually arrived, I ordered the cajun chicken salad with charred corn & baby gem lettuce, it was pretty tasteless. On my husbands black pudding florentine starter the paoched egg was overdone & hard, the spinach had grit and the black pudding was very average. We didn't get the main course until 9:40pm. The steaks were actually their saving grace, a little underdone for med-rare but very tender and very tasty. The 'Jenga' chips were thick cut & crispy served in a mini chip fryer basket. We didn't bother staying for dessert & coffee. Needless to say the other 'booked' table that the other couple couldn't have never turned up. This place was slow enough with only about a 3rd of it's capacity occupied, I would hate to think how bad it would be if fully booked out. Overall pretty disappointing.
