thankfully saved from the dozers - While I'm not the hugest fan of East London trendy dive pubs, I do love the George Tavern. I used to work in Shadwell and this used to be the standard drinking venue for us, erm, usually when someone left.

What I love about it is that it's mainly just a nice, friendly pub, but it's not that rammed so you can usually get a table even on a Friday or Saturday night. They usually have live entertainment later on, but once the DJ was cool with us plugging in our ipod and taking over the dancefloor with some interpretative dancing to Kate Bush. Very cool.

There's a massive terraced bit for smokers but I can't remember there being any patio heaters. I just remember it being cold - nice in the summer though.

I think it was in danger of being turned into luxury flats for a while and I have to say I'm glad it wasn't. 12-10-08
