STEER CLEAR! NEVER PAY THEM UPFRONT - I booked Cheetah Cars last week and had to abandon my journey due to complete incompetence on the driver's part. Now after over a week of the manager promising to get back to me regarding my complaint they have refused to give me a full refund.
I booked a people carrier with a car seat for my 18 month old niece. First of all the driver was 15 minutes late but I had allowed time for traffic so we still had enough time at this point. I then tried to secure the car seat and realised it did not have the correct components and would not actually protect a child if an accident were to happen. Subsequently I had to leave two people behind to get the train as not only would riding without a seat be dangerous it is also illegal. The driver remained in his seat and never once tried to help us but instead blamed those working in the office who gave him the seat before he left.
The driver then says he has no idea where his next stop is so I direct him there. After picking up a friend we set off for our next stop in completely the wrong direction and towards a main road that is notoriously busy at that time of day. The driver ignored our warnings (and our concern at him looking at a map on his phone whilst driving) and takes us straight in to gridlock traffic. After ten minutes those of us who had actually been able to take the taxi decide we can do nothing but jump out and run to the nearest train station.
I called the taxi company that day and they told me I should accept a partial refund and still give some to them as the driver had made an effort! I told him this was not acceptable at which point the manager said he would get hold of the driver to hear what he had to say and get back to me the next day (this was after admitting he had sent me a driver who didn't know the west end).
Two days later and I had heard nothing so I call back to which I am told they haven't been able to contact the driver. Long story short it has taken over a week to get a response (the manager was away and left no one else in the office any information regarding my situation) and now I am told they will refund £26 of the £38 I paid upfront in good faith. So I am currently down £12 not to mention the train fare for 5 people in to the centre of London.
I was and am still so disappointed that this booking went so horrendously wrong. The day was particularly important for my partner who was heading for his Investiture at Buckingham Palace having been made an MBE. This should have been a fantastic day but instead it begun as a nightmare, one which I thought I was avoiding by picking a company with a seemingly good track record (interestingly I have come across two people in the last week who have had incidents with his company in the past).
My advice would be do not go near Cheetah Cars. There are plenty of others to choose from. If they think that the way their driver handled my booking and that the level of care in dealing with it since is acceptable then we have very different views on what good customer service is.
