Harveys Bad, food good. - The Royal Oak, is, I believe, a Harveys Ale House. It has traditional decor, 4-5 handpumps with Harveys Old Ale, Best, Mild and pale ale as well as Fullers London Porter.
I started off with a pint of mild....Mild!! tasteless more like, not nessesarily the publicans fault but not good beer nonetheless.
We finally got a table after 45 minutes or so, ordered our food from the bar, sunday roast for all of us. second pint I had was the fullers and I have to say it was excellent, The food was running out fast, the pub was very busy considering there's a recession on. Our food arrived after about 25 minutes, a little bit too long but it was very welcome when it turned up. The Meat, roast pots and yorkshire pud was served on the plate and the veg was put in a separate serving dish.
The roasts are £8.95, which nowadays is a competitive price and the helpings you get made saure you got great value for money, the food was excellent, I cannot recommmend it enough. The only problem is that this pub is tied to harveys which is nowhere near my favourite brewer.
I'll still go back though, I think the food is worth a revisit and I'll review it again when I do but for now, not too bad, but not great.
