Nothing Special - The Rose is a run-of-the-mill pub near the London Bridge tube. This wasn't our first choice for the night, but when the lines at an allegedly 'underground' club turned out to be more than 50 deep, we decided to meet some friends at this nearby pub.
The area of the pub itself is a bit peculiar - there is a main bar area that appears a bit cramped, and the entrance to the place is the narrowest bit of the whole place. Still, off to the right there is an actually rather pleasant sitting area, with a roaring fire and several couches and small tables to sit around.
Selection of beers was pretty standard, as were the prices. The major complaint of most of my group was the very small 'smoking yard' that was out a doorway beside the ladies loo. It was about an 8x8 ft square of concrete, hemmed in by a makeshift wooden gate that trapped smokers in their own little cancerous corner. Oddly, we had been requested to go back there to smoke to prevent bothering the neighbors, and yet we were also shushed by the door man back here as well. What do you expect living above at pub at 10pm on a Friday night? 03-11-07
