........and the very best chips - I grew up with Friday night treats meaning a trip to pick up Fish and Chips for my family at Nautilus. Old School battered fish exactly as it should be.
Still the best that I have ever had, and the chips have defined for me what chips are meant to be! Make a trip for them alone...really!

I still have family friends who when they return from overseas want to be taken there for a takeaway. Strangely I've never eaten in the dining room, but I guess that's because we were only a few minutes away, and the restaurant part is not much to look at. Take away is the way to go for lucky locals! 20-10-08

Friday Fish Fry - It's Friday night, the London fog is down Cyn and I decided we need a fish supper. We hail our handsome cab and head to Fortune Green Rd, West Hampstead. There is The Nautilus, which according to its sign was selected in some bygone era by “Courvoisier as one of the finest Fish and Chips shops in the UK”. We mull for a second if to go into the small dinning room annexed to the shop but decide on the take away. We enter are met by the patrons clear eyes who is mid serving a customer who he refers as Mr.. We perch on the counter reading the menu above it. The patron notices that we must be first-timers and politely asks if we would mind if he served his next customer we don’t. He then comes to us, shares a joke, then carefully selects two good fish for us. We pay and leave. In the car, our handsome cab, we both comment on the energy and efficiency of the service that was projected by the patron but was evident through the whole team behind him.

½ hour later we've eaten everything, which is a rarity for us. Cyn a succulent juicy piece of cod battered in a crispy bread crumb batter, I a large piece of haddock in traditional flour batter with good home made chips and some lovely bright green mushy peas both excellent. We vowed that from now on The Nautilus is out favoured chipper.
