An important London Landmark needs a unique London feature, and on the upper level where Eurostar departs sits just that - Europe's longest champagne bar. At over 90 metres no other bar comes close. The breathtaking, panoramic view of the entire terminal is on show from each seat at The Champagne Bar. Whether awaiting a train departure, or merely meeting friends or business colleagues for a drink, the bar is set to become one of London’s favoured landmark sites.

Lacking fizz - When St. Pancras opened the buzz around the Champagne bar was amazing, so understandably I had high expectations. Who wouldn’t? Surely when you say Champagne bar, you think glamour? I also (maybe stupidly) expected the bar to be really long, a bit like the bar at Leeds Student Union (well why else did anyone go to the open day?).

Anyhow, in reality the Champagne bar is a small, open, cold bar separated from the Eurostar platform by a wall of glass. You sit in little booths that stretch for ages (where the longest part comes in) or on a stool at the average sized bar. You’re served by some surly staff who don’t seem to be around when you want a refill and are generally quite sulky. The design isn’t even that spectacular, and the fact that you are basically sitting on a train platform kind of kills it.

Yes, they have a good selection of champers and nice cocktails, but part of the fun of drinking is where you’re drinking, and if I was going to spend a lot of money on champagne I would want my surrounds to feel money too. Maybe that’s just me. Go try for yourself, I’d be interested to know if having low expectations makes the experience better ;)
