Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester London Reviews

3* Quality - I went to Alian Ducasse at the Dorchester last night. Everything about the experience was pleasant from the decor, to the staff, and of course.. the food!

The staff were extremely helpful, we were kindly greeted at the front door and escorted to our seats. They were very informative when selecting food and wine from the menu - just as you would expect in a 3 michelin star restaurant. Whilst they were in no way obtrusive, you knew they were there when you required their services.

The food was to die for, our party opted for 3 courses from the a la carte menu at £75/head. The Chicken and Lobster starter was cooked perfectly, and was accompanied by an indulgent creamy jus. For the main course I opted for Veal. Without a doubt it was the best game meat I have ever eaten, anywhere! Following this the praline chocolate dessert was slightly disappointing, but maybe that was because the first two courses were so spectacular?

Overall I was very impressed with all aspects of Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester. It is an expensive experience, but it is ideal if you want to treat yourselves, or celebrate in style.

Lunch in wonderland - The consummate 5* dining experience. I probably preferred the food at Atelier Joel Roubouchon, but for the attentiveness of the staff, the great value and the show-stopping room, I would head back here any time.

I’ll start with the food. It is all about the lunch set menu which costs £40 for two courses and £45 for three (including water, tea/coffee and 2 glasses of wine), which is great value for Michelin stars. It’s super French, so if you’re not into French food (as one of our diners was) then erm, DON’T COME HERE! I’m a veggie and the menu had changed from the one online to be a total fish-fest, but the staff were lovely and tweaked the existing dishes to be veggie-friendly. We decided to go somewhere else for dessert as the cryptic ‘chocolate bar’ wasn’t really floating our boat but then they bought out a giant tray of chocolate and macaroons – yummy. We even got little gift boxes with handwritten cards and nougat/lemon cakes to take home. Do have to say that the coffee isn’t very good though.

The staff- man they are good! They don’t hover around you annoying the hell out of you like in some other Park Lane restaurants, but are perfectly attentive, crack the odd joke, ridiculously charming and generally lovely.

Last but not least the room. This is probably one of the nicest dining rooms that I have had the pleasure to eat in. It definitely leans towards lunch or romantic dinner, but is definitely worth having a look at - if only on the website ;) The chairs are pretty comfy too, btw.

Overall, a really nice treat. I'd love to try the full menu some time.

Spectacular - Amongst the corporate uniformity of hotels nowadays, the Dorchester manages to feel special. The multiple Michelin star (for his restaurants in France) bearing Alain Ducasse is the perfect addition to this. The service is elegant and the room full of tasteful modern details that don't overpower. The main event is of course the food, which doesn't fail to disappoint. From the mini cheesy choux buns to the amuse bouches and the finale of dessert (you get to choose the rum for the rum baba from a selection!)- they look after every detail and every element deserves to be savoured. For a really special occasion, sit at the Table Lumiere which is screened off from the rest of the room behind a circular fibre optic curtain. One of the best meals I have had this year. The entire experience is an adventure from start to finish!

Best night of your life - Ducasse will be the night of your life. There is something other-worldy about the perfection of this establishment. The decor of the room itself is incredible, the service was literally flawless and I don't even know how to describe the food... it was just heaven. Find a special occasion in your calendar, and give them a call.
