A Charming Escape - When you first think of London greenery, nature and space are probably the last connections that come to mind. For years now London has milked its reputation as a buzzy metropolitan city that (notoriously) thrives on a rich property market so, to find a delightful public garden smack bang in the middle of High St Kensington was not only a shock but a pleasant surprise. Despite the unlikely location of Holland Park where the hustle and bustle of the road is only a step away, when you enter through the enchanting iron gates you are greeted with an Alice and Wonderland like sensation. The park is alive with woodlands, finely crafted art plus an exquisite derelict mansion that once belonged to Sir Henry, earl of Holland. Since it was first opened to the public in 1952 many have taken full advantage of a peaceful getaway moments from their hectic offices. What’s more for nannies and guardians there is a special play-area for children, and a ‘1 O’clock club’ which provides supervision and a variety of fun toys for those to young for nursery but to old for cots. Nature lovers who aspire to keep their own grounds in an equally spick span condition there is a garden centre that sells authentic outdoor furniture at a reasonable price. For fitness fanatics there are sports facilities, including tennis courts, a football pitch, a netball court, cricket nets and a golf bunker. All in all a worth while visit but go soon before the winter hits at full velocity!
