My body is a temple. - When I discuss the fact that I go to the gym most of my friends reply with 'oh yeah but I don't like gyms, they're so awful and you feel like you're a hamster in a cage etc and blah' - I've given up trying to convert them, once you're scarred by joining some awful fitness first or community gym then its difficult it difficult to rehabilitate yourself and I'm no martyr to the cause of gyms - I just happen to like them.

Virgin Active have pretty good gyms, in fact they're really good but they also have a range of Virgin Active Classic gyms that are like palaces compared to the regular Virgin Actives.

This one is nestled in behind Liverpool Street Station and actually a couple of floors below ground - once you're inside its massive, like some kind of underground revolutionary complex from a Mad Max film or Aeon Flux - they've got a hair / beauty salon, a cafe, a special area with wifi where you can do your work, 2 yoga / fitness studios and thats just the floor you enter into. Downstairs there's the gym proper and they have nice new equipment and the gym overlooks the massive swimming pool - its huge, like 6 lanes wide.

The changing rooms are awesome and massive, towels are complimentary (in fact they have bath robes too) and so are the Moulton Brown products. There's a steam and sauna in the actual changing room as well as a mixed steam and sauna by the pool.

Seriously if you're into gyms then this is probably about as good as it gets unless you go to some ultimate boutique gym. I love it.
