RIP Regal House, you will be missed - For the third (and dare I say it but now final) time in a row we have been disappointed with our order. Order taken via telephone from a rude member of staff; was told that because our order came to £14.90 they would not deliver. I asked them to increase the delivery charge by 10p to cover it - it was increased to £2.30! Slightly more than the 10p and alot more than the £1 as stated on the menu - which, incidentally, not only does not have their own name on it (Regal House OR Grilled Dumplings), but the name and address of a Chinese takeaway somewhere along London Road, North End!!
So, after over an hour of waiting the delivery finally arrived (no apology given for the lateness). We ordered; 1x lemon chicken, 1x egg fried rice & 1x house special chow mein. The chicken in the first dish was dry, tough and over cooked. The egg fried rice was bland and the house special chow mein was greasy and contained prawns (not specified on the menu and subsequently got rejected!). The food could only be described as warm at best.
Regal House was a fantastic little takeaway but the new management (I assume the same ones who run the Chinese takeaway along London Road?) have over priced the dishes, forgotten to include customer service with your order and added ridiculous delivery costs (according to Grilled Dumplings own receipt I live 0.71 miles away! £2.30 is justifiable, how exactly??). The extra pennies are clearly not being spent on cleaning products as having a hygiene rating of only 3 I would expect a hell of a lot better for what is being charged.
So, it is with much sadness that a once loyal customer to Regal House will now not be returning to Grilled Dumplings. The search for a tasty, reliable and good value Chinese takeaway in Southsea resumes...
